A new baby joins J-Pod, the humpback comeback and 800 new species! April in the ocean with Skaana
Also two podcast interviews with Mark Leiren-Young about Octopus Ocean
Yes! It’s a scary world, but that means when cool things happen it’s time to celebrate. Suttles has a new baby. A new member of the southern resident orca family.
I haven’t spotted any confirmation of gender yet but, like everyone else, hoping this is a new baby girl. And that she’s healthy.
Few southern resident babies survive long… but that’s another post… for now enjoy the news. And if you’d like to hear me rant about why this baby needs a name now - and why I’m calling the baby “Bug” until another name (not a friggin’ number, a name) is announced, check out our latest Skaana episode where I do a Q&A about Canadian politics, Trump and baby orcas.
And be sure to subscribe to catch our next episode… possibly my fave… an interview with Lummi elder, Squil-le-he-le Raynell Morris, about her documentary Resident Orca (about the last southern resident orca in captivity). Talking with Squil-le-he-le reminded me how and why Skaana started and why we keep doing it. Assuming the tech plays well with us, that’ll be live next week.
Interviews about Octopus Ocean…
So I’m not sure how this happened but I was invited to do two podcast interviews with about my new book Octopus Ocean with two of my favourite podcasters (Andrew Lewin - host of How to Protect the Ocean and Joseph Planta - host of Thecommentary.ca). And they were both just posted - which is why I held off on sharing this until today.
Here’s my conversation with Andrew Lewin - THE online ocean educator!
And here’s my conversation with Canada’s essential book podcaster - Joseph Planta:
Meanwhile, over at my personal Substack I got political and did a deep dive into Canada’s federal election…
