Gloria Pancrazi on Skaana
“Orcas are telling us something. They’re showing us something. You can learn a lot about the things we’ve got to do in the world right now by looking at these orcas."
- Gloria Pancrazi
I’ve been wanting to interview the people who made the essential documentary Coextinction since they interviewed me for Coextinction back in 2017. We kept talking and saying… Let’s wait ‘til everyone can see the movie. And, finally, everyone can.
Gloria Pancrazi is a wonderful filmmaker and a passionate advocate for the southern resident orcas and the planet. We talked online about red herrings, fishy fish farms, whale watching, whale saving, the creation of Coextinction and all things orca.
And now… orca movies
Coextinction - The essential documentary about the threats facing the endangered southern resident orcas - is now available EVERYWHERE. For the full story on this fantastic film, please check out the latest episode of Skaana where I talk with filmmaker, Gloria Pancrazi. Here’s a complete list of links to where/how you can see Coextinction. https://coextinctionfilm.com/watch/
The Hundred-Year-Old Whale - The short (15-minute) documentary from Team Skaana shares the story of Granny, the late long-time matriarch of the southern resident orcas. Winner of multiple awards - including the Writers Guild of Canada Award for Best Documentary - and featuring the late Ken Balcomb, this movie has just become widely available online and can now be screened on numerous sites -including YouTube.
And for a bit of holiday fun… an eco-Christmas video from Mark Leiren-Young & Rayne Benu at Team Skaana
And for Mark’s adventures as the rarest of reindeer…
Supporting Skaana in 2024
As the world - and the oceans - become more dangerous I’d love to be sharing more stories about orcas, oceans and the environment.
This year we’d like to deep dive into fights worth winning - including the battle against ocean floor mining and saving the southern resident orcas and marine life everywhere.
Because 2024 isn’t just an election year in the US, it has the potential to be America’s last election year, we also plan to keep an eye on US eco-politics.
To do that we need your support.
Yes, we have wonderful sponsors, and they are essential in helping us cover the cost of producing and hosting the podcast, websites etc. but one reason we can’t produce episodes as frequently as we’d like is that everyone on the team is volunteering our time. If you can sponsor us at Patreon, pay to subscribe to this newsletter or even share our work with everyone you know, we can and will tell more stories more often.
And speaking of stories
